We are located at 1520 Caswell St, near the intersection of Wade Ave & Glenwood Ave.
Our stated meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7:30 PM. We have a meal before each meeting at 6:30 PM. All Scottish Rite Brethren are invited to attend our meals and stated meetings.
CBS Sunday Morning visits the House of the Temple
In late March, journalist Mo Rocca and the crew of "CBS Sunday Morning", a nationally broadcast weekly news magazine, visited the House of the Temple to film for an upcoming feature on Freemasonry. Rocca interviewed Ill. Bro. S. Brent Morris in our majestic Temple Room on his expertise in the history of the Craft and what it means to be a Freemason. Rocca also interviewed members of The Colonial Lodge, No. 1821, a local DC lodge that meets in the House of the Temple. The Colonial Lodge is a University lodge, all members are connected to The George Washington University, and boasts a younger-than-average membership, something Rocca noted in his interviews
Bro Elmer G. Oakes Jr. 32° - 50th Year in Masonry and Scottish Rite
On January 27, 2013, Ill Sam Vaughan, Ill Luigi Ammons and Michael May 32 KCCH presented brother Elmer Oakes his 50 Year Scottish Rite Certificate at his home in Raleigh.
Brother Elmer G. Oakes Jr. 32nd Degree celebrated his 50th year in Masonry as a member of Churchland Lodge #276, Portsmouth Virginia and the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Portsmouth Virginia. Brother Oakes is also a member of Esther Chapter #37 OES also located in Portsmouth Virginia.
Brother Oakes retired from Abex Corporation, Railroad Products Group, as Plant Manager in 1978. A member of The Greatest Generation , he served during World War II in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the 9th Armored Division, 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion.
A native of Saltville Virginia , Brother Oakes recently relocated from his home in Chesapeake Virginia and now resides with his son Brother Gordon Oakes 32 degree and his wife Kay Oakes in Raleigh , North Carolina.
